Corus Entertainment on Wednesday announced changes to its management leadership team, including the promotion of John Gossling to CEO, the departure of former co-CEO Troy Reeb, and role expansions for Jennifer Abrams and Jennifer Lee.
Gossling is formerly co-CEO of Corus, a position he was appointed to at the same time as Reeb after former CEO Doug Murphy’s sudden retirement in June 2024. Gossling has also been serving as Corus’s chief financial officer, and he will continue to act in that role on an interim basis, Corus said in a press release announcing the company’s leadership changes.
“In light of the evolving industry landscape as well as the actions taken to date to stabilize the capital and debt structure of the Company, the Board has decided to transition back to a single CEO structure,” said Mark Hollinger, lead independent director and co-chair of the human resources and governance committee of Corus, in the press release.
“John has capably led the Company as Co-CEO and CFO and is an exceptional leader with the strategic experience and skills needed to guide Corus through change in an evolving industry. The Board is confident in his abilities to position Corus for future opportunities and the longer term,” Hollinger said.
With these changes, Corus said Reeb has decided to pursue opportunities outside of the company and has stepped down as co-CEO, effective Wednesday. Reeb’s tenure at Corus extends back more than 25 years, beginning at Canwest in the Global News division.
“It has been an honour to work with the best brands and the best people in the business,” Reeb said in a statement. “I have full confidence that Corus has a bright future under the leadership of John and the talented management team.”
“We thank Troy for his leadership in News and Audio and, in recent years, Sales, Programming and Content and wish him well in his next chapter,” said Heather Shaw, non-executive chair of the Corus board.
The other management changes see Jennifer Abrams appointed as senior vice president of content and marketing. In addition to her current responsibilities overseeing all aspects of programming Global and Corus’s suite of premium specialty channels and streaming services, Abrams will now oversee marketing and content creation activities at Corus.
Jennifer Lee’s mandate is also expanding, with her now overseeing additional operational functions while continuing as chief legal officer, chief administrative officer and corporate secretary. Lee will also continue to oversee regulatory and public affairs at Corus, a role she has held since joining the company in 2021.
Ward Smith, senior vice president of news and audio, will continue to lead Global News and Corus’s Audio business, and now reports directly to Gossling.
Barb McKergow, senior vice president of advertising, Shawn Kelly, executive vice president of technology, and Bianca Williamson, senior vice president of people and culture, will continue to serve on Corus’s senior leadership team.
