TORONTO – Corus will serve up the Cooking Channel later this year, a new to Canada network billed as complementary to the company’s Food Network Canada.

The launch of Cooking Channel in Canada, scheduled for December 12, 2016, is an extension of Corus’ long-term partnership with Scripps Networks Interactive.  The company confirmed Wednesday that the new channel will be a rebrand of W Movies, which itself was a rebrand of the now defunct Sex TV.

“As leaders in specialty content, we are continuously evaluating our portfolio to ensure we are delivering audiences the best in entertainment,” said Corus EVP and COO Barbara Williams, in the announcement.  “As the interest in food content continues to grow, we see an opportunity to add the tremendously successful Cooking Channel brand to our portfolio. With Cooking Channel’s focus on serving those passionate about food and cooking, Food Network Canada will continue to bring Canadians dynamic, new entertainment-driven food related programming.”

Proposed new programming includes Man Fire Food, starring Canadian chef Roger Mooking (above) showcasing inventive ways to cook with fire; Unwrapped 2.0, a fun and fascinating look at the processes, great stories and interesting people behind the creation of popular snacks; and Cake Hunters, where three cake designers compete to have their concepts selected by party hosts for events like weddings and family reunions.
