WINNIPEG – Make way for more big hits and classic rock in Winnipeg after Friday’s launch of 97.5 BIG FM (CJKR-FM) by Corus Radio Winnipeg.
The new station, a rebrand of Power 97 FM, pledged to honour Winnipeg’s rock heritage with a classic mix of artists from the late ‘60s to the ‘90s that includes Manitoba natives Neil Young, The Guess Who, Bachman-Turner Overdrive and Tom Cochrane, as well as an extensive rock playlist from the likes of Bon Jovi, Rolling Stones, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, U2, Billy Joel and John Mellencamp.
The new on-air lineup debuted Monday, and is being promoted with an external marketing campaign that includes outdoor, print and television ads reflecting the station’s new sound.
“As Canada’s home of classic rock, we are excited to offer Winnipeggers 97.5 BIG FM,” said Corus Radio Winnipeg general manager Scott Armstrong, in the news release. “We know that there is an appetite for a station that is familiar, less predictable and has rock credibility. 97.5 BIG FM will offer listeners a music recipe that pays homage to Winnipeg’s rock heritage.”
