TORONTO – The Canadian Football League (CFL) announced today that it has signed a two-year programming agreement with Corus Entertainment’s radio division to broadcast the Grey Cup championship game across Canada this year and next.
This year, Corus Radio will broadcast the 93rd Grey Cup game from Vancouver’s BC Place on Sunday, November 27th. This exclusive agreement, administered by Deep Sky Sound Marketing Ideas, Corus Radio’s national marketing and programming division, extends Corus’ involvement in broadcasting the CFL as the official rights holder for six of the nine CFL teams.
The Grey Cup game will be covered on multiple Corus radio stations, including AM 770 CHQR (Calgary), 630 CHED (Edmonton), CJOB 680 (Winnipeg), AM 900 CHML (Hamilton), CFPL AM 980 (London) and 640 AM Radio (Toronto), as well as on a syndicated network of stations in markets not covered by Corus including Regina, Ottawa and Montreal.
The championship broadcast will consist of a two-hour pre-game show, play-by-play coverage of the 2005 Grey Cup game and a one-hour post-game show.
"For the past three years, the partnership between Corus and the CFL has enabled us to further engage fans across the country, offering the excitement of our great Canadian game via live, in-depth radio coverage," said Brent Scrimshaw, senior vice-president of marketing and partnerships, CFL, in a release. "With a full lineup of programming planned around this year’s game, we are pleased to once again be working with Corus as the official radio rights holder of Canada’s Championship, the Grey Cup."
"Corus is thrilled to renew its partnership with the CFL," said David Huszar, general manager, Deep Sky. "As the country’s leading commercial news-talk broadcaster, we are proud to bring this great Canadian game to the airwaves."
