TORONTO – International children’s television channel KidsCo, a joint venture owned by Corus Entertainment and NBCUniversal, will soon fade to black.
A spokesperson for the brand alluded to increased competition in the children’s genre as a reason for the decision.
"As one of many children's linear services available in the international market, growing the KidsCo business has been challenging”, reads the emailed statement. “As a result, both shareholders – NBCUniversal and Corus Entertainment – have decided to discontinue the joint venture service by early 2014."
KidsCo, which launched in 2007 and broadcasts from Corus' headquarters in Toronto, is available in 18 languages in over 100 territories including Europe, western Asia, Australia and the Middle East. While the channel is based in London, Corus was overseeing its programming and scheduling as well as collaborating on marketing and on-air promotions.
