Corus leadership restructuring sees Greg McLelland’s CRO role eliminated

Corus Entertainment announced Wednesday it is eliminating the position of executive vice president and chief revenue officer currently held by Greg McLelland, who will step down from the role effective Aug. 31.

The move will see Barb McKergow taking on the expanded role of senior vice president of advertising for Corus, reporting to co-CEO Troy Reeb and joining the media company’s senior leadership team. Her appointment is effective Sept. 1.

In her expanded role, McKergow will oversee all advertising sales, revenue management, research, advanced advertising and data teams at Corus.

Corus said in a press release the refining of its leadership structure is “part of its ongoing efforts to right-size its business for sustainability.”

McLelland is departing Corus “with a legacy of first-to-market-achievements, underpinned by a client-centric, data-driven approach that has cultivated meaningful advertiser and talent relationships,” the press release says. “During his two-decade career in media, McLelland has championed growth and innovation through his work with clients, industry organizations and boards.”

McLelland and McKergow both joined Corus in 2016 as part of its acquisition of Shaw Media. McLelland has held the EVP and CRO role at Corus since the merger. Before working at Shaw Media, McLelland held vice president roles at Canwest and Alliance Atlantis.

Prior to the Corus-Shaw Media merger, McKergow had been head of marketing ventures at Shaw Media as well as sales director. She was an account executive at Canwest before that, according to her LinkedIn profile.

“Under Greg’s leadership, Corus has built industry-leading advertising solutions and developed an incredible unique selling proposition that drives results for clients,” Reeb said in a statement. “On industry boards, Greg has helped drive evolution in the way our industry measures and uses data. I want to thank Greg for his indelible contributions to Corus, championing our industry-leading brands and people.

“Succession planning is an integral part of our strategy and Barb is a longstanding and well-known leader who brings a wealth of experience and a passion for our products and our clients,” Reeb added. “This leadership change represents Corus’s commitment to investing in operations and areas that help our partners grow their business through our premium content and engaged audiences.”
