Corus drops Watters on afternoon drive at AM640

TORONTO – Corus-owned Talk Radio AM640 has named Canadian journalist Arlene Bynon as the station’s new afternoon drive host, replacing Bill Watters.

Effective immediately, The Arlene Bynon Show can be heard weekdays in Toronto from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and pledges to provide listeners with “an interactive forum for debate and discussion on topics that matter, feature exclusive interviews with today’s newsmakers and deliver a daily recap of current affairs”, according to a news release on Monday.

“Arlene is a highly respected broadcaster with a depth of knowledge, credibility and experience that make her a welcome addition to our stellar and talented lineup”, said senior program director, Gord Harris, in the release. “Arlene’s midday show was very popular among our listeners and her move to afternoon drive will further reinforce our commitment to provide our listeners with informed, engaging and entertaining current affairs talk radio that the station is known to deliver.”

In her more than 20 years as an interviewer, anchor and reporter, Bynon is the former host and producer of the television show Bynon, as well as the radio program Chronicle. She has also been a columnist for the National Post, and wrote features for the Globe and Mail, the Toronto Star, The Mail on Sunday, and the New York Post.

Corus said that Watters will share his hockey-related thoughts during weekday mornings on The John Oakley Show.
