Corus debuts Quebec chopper

MONTREAL – Corus Radio continued its national air support rollout on Monday as its Quebec division today announced the launch of its Montreal traffic helicopter.

A Robinson R44 Raven II model helicopter took to the skies Monday and will serve CORUS Québec’s six radio stations. Therefore, CKOI FM, 98,5FM, CKAC, INFO 690, 940 Montreal and Q92 will benefit from an additional tool to provide complete and accurate traffic reports and to cover major events.

From Monday to Friday, CORUS Québec’s six Montreal based radio stations will be broadcasting 10 daily traffic reports between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. and between 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. CORUS News also intends to maximize the usage of the new helicopter by putting it to the service of the Montreal emergency services, such as the police and firefighters, or for other public services.

The radio stations will be maintaining their ground traffic services also, and will therefore be broadcasting a total of 2,147 traffic reports per week. Aboard the helicopter, there will be two traffic reporters, one English speaking and one French speaking, and the ground team who will support them will need to take on a technological challenge to coordinate the traffic reports on all six radio stations.
