Correction: The Newsroom gets International Emmy nomination

TORONTO – Ken Finkleman’s The Newsroom, which airs on CBC, received an International Emmy award nomination for comedy Monday in Cannes at MIPCOM.

An earlier version of this story said it won an Emmy, but the awards are not presented until next month.

Writer, director and executive producer Finkleman, who produces the show with Jan Peter Meyboom through their company 100 Percent Film & Television Inc., stars as George Findlay, the acerbic and self-absorbed news director. “We are thrilled and honored to be recognized for a second consecutive year by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences”, said Meyboom who was in Cannes for the announcement. Meyboom is at MIPCOM with 100 Percent’s newest project, an as yet untitled six-part original limited series about the denizens and guests of a boutique hotel currently filming in Toronto.

Season I of The Newsroom first aired in 1996 on CBC Television. The second season is presently airing on PBS in the United States and is available in Canada on DVD through Morningstar Entertainment. The show is produced in association with CBC Television and Showcase Television with the participation of Telefilm Canada. Season III first aired in early 2005 on the CBC and will soon have its American premiere in the United States on PBS beginning November 1, 2005. The American release of Seasons II and Season III DVDs is slated for March 2006.
