CommTech a packed show

MISSISSAUGA, ON – The Mississauga Convention Center was a buzz of activity Tuesday morning as CommTech East kicked off with a full house for the general session with guest speaker Daniel Howard, CTO for the SCTE.

Howard provided an overview of industry trends and timing direction related to the technology and evolution paths of fibre to the home.

Here are a few highlights. Everyone agrees that PON is the end game scenario, but hybrid fiber coaxial will remain for a long time. The challenge is the transition. Within that challenge is the diversity of the solutions and the diversity of legacy equipment. So one size will not fit all. What’s seems to be driving fibre deployment faster is competition and not necessarily customer demand.

The SCTE has plans to release three technical journals on operational practices this summer that will focus on 3D network operations, digital video and energy management. These are expected to be a great benefit for their chapter members.

Howard’s presentation was sponsored by the SCTE Ontario Chapter, strong supporters of CommTech East and key experts to the Technical Advisory Board.
