BALA, Ont. – According to a report in a local news outlet in Muskoka, Cogeco Connexion is cancelling its TV services in and around Bala, Ont. as of June 5, 2018.

Customers there and in seven other surrounding villages have been notified by the company that it is pulling out of the region – one which it provides only an analog cable TV service to about 120 subscribers.

Bala is about 25 kilometres northwest of Gravenhurst, Ont.

A company spokesperson told Cartt.ca that this is a business decision where it made more sense to leave the region than rebuild its aged plant there. The company has no current plans to take similar actions in other areas, Cartt.ca was told.

“This decision was not taken lightly by Cogeco, but after careful evaluation of our technical situation in the Bala area, we have concluded that we are no longer in a position to fulfil our goal of providing our customers with the best TV experience,” said the spokesman in an email to Cartt.ca “As a result, we can confirm that unfortunately as of June 5, 2018, Cogeco Connexion will cease providing TV services in the Bala Region to a very small number of customers. Cogeco Connexion doesn’t carry other services in this region. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this situation may cause.”
