The Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA) on Monday announced the promotion of Jason Lee to managing vice president of the BC Producers Branch and Industrial Relations.
In his new role, Lee will oversee the daily operations of the CMPA-BC Producers Branch and continue to manage the office of BC Industrial Relations.
Since joining the CMPA in 2017 as vice president of BC Industrial Relations, Lee has served as the lead negotiator in collective bargaining on behalf of the BC Branch Council. In this role, Lee also supports BC members with various labour matters, including the interpretation of agreements and the preparation of grievances and arbitrations. He also represents the independent production sector in matters of employment standards, health and safety, and regulatory compliance.
“As an integral member of the CMPA’s senior leadership team, Jason’s deep understanding of the province’s production landscape and the challenges producers face have made him an exceptional advocate for BC members,” Reynolds Mastin, CMPA’s president and CEO, said in a statement. “Over the past eight years, Jason’s integrity, diligence and collaborative approach to bargaining has led to the successful renewal of numerous BC labour agreements. I know he will continue to serve BC members well in this expanded role.”
“I’m fortunate to work alongside a remarkable team of colleagues at the CMPA, and will work diligently to uphold the extraordinary record of commitment and dedication that members have come to know and expect of our BC office,” Lee said in press release announcing his appointment. “I look forward to working closely with the BC Branch Council, and advocating strongly on behalf of our members and the broader production community, as we navigate the current challenges and uncertainty facing our sector.”
The position of managing vice president of the BC Branch was previously held by Tracey Friesen until January 2025.
