CMF to takes its strategic planning on the road

TORONTO – The Canada Media Fund is hitting the road on a cross-country tour to meet with various industry groups and stakeholders and get input for strategic planning about how best to support content creation in the future.

The CMF’s cross-country consultation begins this fall and will travel to 18 cities (see below) throughout Canada in a series of focus groups, industry groups and advisory committees.

With the current two-year program guidelines coming to an end, the CMF hopes to use stakeholders’ feedback to shape policy for 2014-15 and beyond.

The focus groups will provide a forum for stakeholders to discuss issues surrounding policy on funding, CMF-supported activities, criteria for defining eligible Canadian content, and more.

“These open and frank conversations will help us to continue to meet the needs of the industry and to shape CMF policy,” said CMF’s president and CEO Valerie Creighton in a release. “With our stakeholders’ input, we can learn from the CMF’s first three years of operation and embark on the planning stages of how best we can continue to support content creation in Canada.”

Following the focus groups, the CMF will conduct a series of working groups and advisory committees with industry stakeholders to delve more deeply into specific, program-related issues.

Once the cross-country tour is concluded, a national focus group committee with representatives from BDUs, producers, unions and guilds, private and provincial funding agencies and other industry associations will meet to report on the feedback.

All documents presented and discussed during the consultation process will be accessible through the CMF website. CMF stakeholders are invited to share comments and questions via the CMF website or through its social media accounts on Twitter and Facebook.
