TORONTO – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) is investing $2 million to support the production of 10 projects as part of its new Web Series Pilot Program.
The program, developed to meet the needs in the marketplace for linear content created for online consumption, helps to finance Canadian web series in their second or subsequent season.
The ten projects are in the drama genre. Six of the web series are in English and four are in French, the CMF said, with one from British Columbia, five from Ontario and four from Québec. Based on the success of the first year of funding through this program, the CMF announced plans to both increase its budget allocation to $4 million and to expand eligibility under this program to include documentary projects, in addition to the already eligible drama or children’s and youth projects.
