CMF invests $14.6M in Indigenous, Francophone minority projects

TORONTO and MONTREAL – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) announced yesterday it will invest $14.6 million in 31 projects through its Indigenous Program and Francophone Minority Program.

The Indigenous Program delivers funding in support of the growth of Indigenous production in the country. The CMF is providing $8.9 million to support 16 projects that the fall under the children’s and youth, documentary and drama genres from Indigenous creators, according to a press release.

The projects were chosen by a jury made up of individuals from Indigenous communities including Rachel-Alouki Labbé, Jordan Molaro, Jessica Rose Carrie Murwin, Jamie-Lee Reardon, and Danielle Rochette.

“Together, they brought a complementary set of skills to the selection process, including Indigenous-led audiovisual production, contemporary visual arts and traditional storytelling through Indigenous perspectives, as well as knowledge of several Indigenous languages,” the press release says.

The remaining $5.7 million will support 15 projects from Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Ontario through the CMF’s Francophone Minority Program. The program “supports projects that reflect the realities of living in French-language communities outside Québec,” the release says.
