TORONTO – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) has added two new members to its Board of Directors following its recent AGM in Montreal.

Barry Chapman and Gary Pizante succeed outgoing directors Dave McLennan and Rob Scarth, joining current directors Alain Cousineau; Alison Clayton; Lori DeGraw; Guy Fournier; and Michael Schmalz.

Chapman has over 30 years’ experience in the telecommunications industry at the executive level, extensive knowledge in regulatory affairs, mergers and acquisitions, as well as strategic and financial planning.  He also brings extensive corporate governance experience, having sat on numerous boards.  Chapman held the role of vice-president, regulatory affairs at Bell Canada between 1989 and 2017.

Based in Calgary, Pizante has since 1988 held positions with increasing responsibility in the Canadian telecommunications, cable, and satellite business and brings extensive experience in financial and economic analysis.  He was previously vice-president, pricing and analytics at Shaw Communications.

“I would like to welcome Barry Chapman and Gary Pizante to the CMF Board of Directors,” said BoD chair Alain Cousineau, in the announcement.  “My Board colleagues and I look forward to working with them and benefiting from their extensive experience, as we set the corporation’s path forward. On behalf of all at CMF, I would also like to thank Dave McLennan and Rob Scarth for their commitment to the organization, their high standards of corporate governance and their valuable work on the Board. Their dedication has been a great asset to the CMF and the Canadian screen-based industry.”

The CMF Board of Directors is fully independent from management, its funders and any beneficiaries. Directors are appointed by two member organizations, the Canadian Coalition for Cultural Expression (CCCE), representing Canada’s cable, satellite and IPTV distributors and the Government of Canada, through the Department of Canadian Heritage.
