OAKVILLE – Ron Close is stepping down after 16 months as president and CEO of Pelmorex Media, parent company of The Weather Network, MétéoMédia, Beat the Traffic and eltiempo.es.

His departure, effective August 31st, is for personal reasons, the company said Wednesday.  He will be replaced by Pierre Morrissette (pictured), who was president and CEO for 24 years, in addition to founder, controlling shareholder and executive chairman of the board.

“We are disappointed Ron is leaving Pelmorex”, said Morrissette, in the announcement.  “He made a significant contribution and is admired by all our employees.  Pelmorex is ideally positioned in the marketplace. Our long-term and short-term plans clearly articulate our strategy to grow in Canada and beyond. We are a market leader and there is no doubt we will continue to build on this foundation.”

“It has been a great honour for me to be part of this great brand, this great team and this great company”, added Close.  “I leave with confidence that Pelmorex has a wonderfully bright future.”
