PRINCE RUPERT, BC — CityWest announced its fibre-to-the-home rollout will cover almost half of Prince Rupert households by the end of the year, as part of its five-year, $10-million fibre investment in the city.

“Our amazing employees have been hard at work over the last year building our state-of-the-art fibre plant in Prince Rupert,” said Chris Marett, CEO of CityWest, in a news release. “And we’re all very proud that, by the end of this year, almost half of the households in town will be able to access fibre-to-the-home services.”

Bart Kuntz, vice-president, outside plant at CityWest added: “Our outside plant team has kept all our builds on-budget and on-time. We’re lucky to have such a hard-working, determined group.”

This year, the company plans to build out six more areas of town with fibre services, which will represent almost half of the households in Prince Rupert, according to the news release.

Announced in May 2017, the construction of new fibre-to-the-home infrastructure began in 2018. Since its launch, hundreds of customers have switched over to the new technology. One of those customers is Ross McNish, who lives in a section of town where the third phase of construction was recently completed. “We got the full-meal deal,” McNish said, subscribing to Internet, TV and phone services.

While McNish was quoted in the news release as saying he was happy with his CityWest services before the switch to fibre, he heard about the benefits of fibre services from his friends. McNish also spoke of the seamless installation process and the knowledgeable customer service representatives that made him feel comfortable in making the switch.

Those two factors are well-known to Marett, CityWest’s CEO. “While we continually strive to offer the best new technology to our customers, it is our employees who are our most valuable resource,” Marett said. “Their hard work is what enables our clients to get the best customer experience in the North.”
