PRINCE RUPERT, BC – Municipally owned network operator CityWest has received a Premier’s Innovation and Excellence Award for its efforts in helping to connect public schools as part of the K-12 Public School Next Generation Network project.

The project involved building a layer-3 MPLS-based IP VPN network, and a layer-2 Ethernet WAN network for school districts in Prince Rupert and Terrace, allowing the Ministry of Education to roll out a new network to deliver education services in new and improved ways.

The Next Generation Network also implemented other capabilities around network monitoring and enhanced security, which will support learning opportunities for students and improve the needs of teachers and district IT personnel.

“Essentially, the new network paves the way for local schools to not only benefit today from an advanced network, but also be in a position to take advantage of future capabilities and trends,” said CityWest sales and project management VP Donovan Dias, in the news release.  “This infrastructure will be able to support the future direction of education delivery and access to content.”
