PRINCE RUPERT, BC – CityWest is getting out of the cellular business “to focus investments on other product lines” and is referring its wireless customers in Prince Rupert to Telus.
The small telco said its customers can switch their account without cancellation fees, and may trade-in their current device for credit towards any new Telus smartphone. Telus and CityWest will soon offer other features to customers making the switch, such as allowing them to keep their wireless phone number and bundled packages of CityWest wired and Telus wireless services.
Telus, which already has an extensive wireless network in Prince Rupert, said that the agreement gives it the platform to continue investing in the area, including bringing customers new technology such as 4G LTE, likely next year. It will open a temporary location in the CityWest building in downtown Prince Rupert later this week.
“Partnering with Telus gives our wireless customers access to the best available technology today and to enhanced technology as it evolves in the future,” said CityWest CEO Don Holkestad, in the announcement. “Our customers have been waiting for access to the latest, most popular smartphones and Telus will give our customers the opportunity to purchase the hottest new devices. This partnership achieves the best outcome for our customers and the future of CityWest.”
With offices in Prince Rupert and Terrace, CityWest provides television, Internet, phone, hosted voice, IP, and data services to thousands of residents and businesses across Northwest B.C.
