PRINCE RUPERT, BC – CityWest is helping to rejuvenate a neighbourhood park that borders the largest subsidized housing complex in Prince Rupert.
The municipally owned network operator said that it “jumped to action” after learning that Transition Prince Rupert, which is handling the funding and logistics for the construction of McKay Street Park, was hit with some unanticipated costs after the land in was cleared and surveyed.
Construction on the park is scheduled to begin next month and CityWest said that it’s $10,000 donation will be put towards more cleanup and filling in of the site.
According to Transition Prince Rupert’s Go Fund Me page, the final park design includes a covered basketball pavilion, expanded community gardens, covered skate/bike area, picnic grounds, a dog park and a cultural centre.
“We’re happy to make this donation, because we feel that this project will benefit the community,” said CityWest CEO Chris Marett, in a statement. “It also aligns with our philanthropic efforts to help people in the North do great things.”
