PRINCE RUPERT, B.C. — Animation fans in Prince Rupert will be able to enjoy an old-fashioned drive-in movie experience this summer thanks to municipally owned network operator CityWest.
On Tuesday, August 4, the parking lot of Prince Rupert’s Jim Ciccone Civic Centre will be transformed into a drive-in movie venue for the screening of Onward, a 2020 movie by Pixar Animation Studios.
“We picked the movie partly because of its title,” said Chris Armstrong, director of marketing with CityWest, in the news release issued today. “We think ‘Onward’ is the right attitude as we continue to battle successfully through this pandemic. And, it’s a great movie for the family!”
Due to provincial guidelines, only 50 cars will be allowed in the viewing area for the event — CityWest held a draw for the tickets, and winners will be contacted this week. Cost of admission is a donation of cash or non-perishable items to the food bank.
“We know we can still have a good time while abiding by the boundaries of social distancing, and we’re proud to bring this experience to the community,” said Armstrong.
Onward tells the story of two elves who live in a world where magic was once real and they go on a quest to rekindle a little bit of that magic, and learn something about themselves along the way. Released in February 2020, the movie has grossed more than $100 million worldwide.
The movie is scheduled to begin when the sun sets on the night of August 4, at approximately 9:30 p.m. PT. For more information, visit www.citywest.ca/drive-in.
