Citytv’s Hudson & Rex renewed for season three

TORONTO — Production on the third season of Citytv’s Canadian original scripted series Hudson & Rex will begin this July in St. John’s, working within Newfoundland’s pandemic-related provincial guidelines, Rogers Sports and Media announced Tuesday.

Produced by Shaftesbury and Pope Productions Ltd., in association with Citytv and Beta Film GmbH, the new 16-episode season will see the return of Detective Charlie Hudson (played by John Reardon) and his canine partner, Rex (played by Diesel vom Burgimwald).

Sold to more than 100 territories including Italy, Germany and France, Hudson & Rex will continue to be filmed in St. John’s, where the series is set.

Starring alongside Reardon and Diesel are returning cast members Mayko Nguyen as Dr. Sarah Truong, Kevin Hanchard as Superintendent Joseph Donovan, and Justin Kelly as tech analyst Jesse Mills.

“We’re excited to head into production on a third season of Hudson & Rex with our great partners at Rogers Sports and Media,” said Christina Jennings, chairman and CEO of Shaftesbury and executive producer for the series, in the news release. “This season will bring more Canadian stories to a growing global audience for the series, set amidst the beautiful backdrop of St. John’s, Newfoundland.”

Viewers can catch up on the first two seasons of the series on the Citytv Now app for iOS, Android and fourth-generation Apple TV.
