Citytv “Bachelor” app bridges multi platforms with live chat, fantasy pool

TORONTO – Citytv is inviting viewers to share the love with a co-viewing app for The Bachelor Canada where they can watch along with friends and ‘bet’ on the eventual winner. The app also features a live chat, a fantasy pool, and behind-the-scenes blog posts from bachelor Brad Smith and host Tyler Harcott.

“This is the first time a co-viewing app has been available to viewers in the history of The Bachelor franchise,” said Andrea Gagliardi, senior director and general manager of broadcasting at Rogers Digital Media.

The free app is available for the BlackBerry PlayBook on BlackBerry App World and on the iPad via the App Store or at iTunes.ca. The Bachelor Canada premieres Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Citytv. Following the premiere, the series moves to its regular timeslot Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT, beginning October 10.

Bachelor app features include:

– Live chat: log on and chat live with fans of the show and Brad Smith and host Tyler Harcott, as they take part in the chat on select dates throughout the season.

– Virtual rose ceremony: viewers select their top bachelorettes and hand out their own virtual roses leading up to and during each week’s episode – with a chance to win prizes including a trip for two to the live taping of The Bachelor Canada After The Final Rose special.

– Fantasy pool: features a series of The Bachelor Canada trivia questions each Thursday morning that will remain live up until the following week’s episode. Fans have until 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday nights to submit their answers and then tune in to find out how they fared. The player with the most points by the end of the season will win a trip for two to a fantasy destination. Plus, up the stakes and connect using Facebook to play against friends.

Following the premiere, the interactive BachelorCanada.ca site complements the app with a comprehensive episode guide complete with recaps, live chats, photo galleries, clips and full episodes, to ensure that fans don’t miss a minute of the magic. Available now are blog posts from each bachelorette leading up to night one in the mansion and, beginning next week, bachelor Brad and host Tyler Harcott will provide weekly blogs following each episode.
