THUNDER BAY, ON – TbayTel, Canada’s largest independent telecommunications company, is undertaking an extensive upgrade of their cellular network and regional broadband networks.
The Thunder Bay-based telco, which provides landline, wireless, Internet and home security service to residential and business customers, has a 300,000 square kilometre coverage area that extends from the Manitoba border across northern Ontario to as far east as Chapleau, ON.
“This significant investment in microwave upgrades allows TBayTel to deliver much needed, high-speed internet connections and services to regional hospitals, clinics, and residents in rural areas, while allowing our mobility customers to enjoy 3G services and even more reliable service,” said Simone Laatu, vice president of networks and technology, in a statement.
TbayTel has hired Montreal-based telecom distributor Trispec Communications to install and engineer the project.
