SEEKING TO QUELL speculation about its commitment to the cable set top box business, Cisco took to its official blog Monday in an effort to set the record straight.
“Let me be as clear as I can”, wrote corporate communications director John Earnhardt, in a post. “We love set top boxes.”
Earnhardt went on to quote chairman and CEO John Chambers who stated that Cisco was “very much committed to (the STB) marketplace”.
“Our SP customers asked us to partner with them as they move from traditional set top boxes to IP set top boxes to the cloud, our Videoscape solution”, Chambers said during a discussion of the company’s second quarter financials earlier this month. “Receptivity so far has been very, very good in terms of our strategy. We have demonstrated our capability to bring video to large volumes of any combination of devices whether it is Cisco, our peers and even our competitors.”
