LAS VEGAS – Move over Apple iPad, here comes the Cisco Cius.
The new Android-based computing device, revealed Thursday, uses Cisco collaboration architecture and virtual desktop integration to deliver mobile computing, collaboration and communication services.
In addition to full telepresence interoperability, the 0.52kg (1.15 lbs) Cisco Cius offers HD video streaming and real-time video, multi-party conferencing, email, messaging, browsing, and the ability to produce, edit and share content stored locally or centrally in the cloud.
"Cisco Cius epitomizes how the network is changing the way we live, work, learn and play”, said Tony Bates, Cisco’s SVP and GM of enterprise, commercial and small business, in the announcement. “This platform can transform how healthcare professionals advance patient care; how retailers deliver service experiences to consumers, or how universities deliver world-class education to their students. Best of all, Cisco Cius offers IT functions a way to dramatically lower the cost-per-user of provisioning those new experiences."
Customer trials will begin in the third quarter of calendar year 2010, with general availability in the first quarter of calendar year 2011, the company said.
