OTTAWA – The Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) is opening its call for grant applications March 1, 2022.
CIRA, is a member-based not-for-profit organization “best known for managing the .CA internet domain on behalf of all Canadians,” the organization’s website says.
CIRA’s Community Investment Program provides grants for “innovative community internet projects to build a resilient, trusted and secure internet for all Canadians,” the site says. The organization has given out $9.2 million in funding for 185 projects since 2014.
CIRA’s March 2022 call for grants is for projects in the areas of infrastructure, digital literacy, cybersecurity and community leadership with a preference for projects benefiting northern, rural and indigenous communities or students from kindergarten to grade 12 and post-secondary.
Those eligible to apply include registered charities, not-for-profits, academics and researchers affiliated with a Canadian university or college and Indigenous communities.
Projects will be evaluated by CIRA’s Community Investment Evaluation Panel. “The Panel is made up of CIRA board members on its Community Investment Committee and a selection of representatives active in the Canadian internet community. The Committee is appointed by the CIRA Board of Directors,” CIRA’s website explains.
The application period closes April 13, 2022, at 2 p.m. ET. On March 8, CIRA is holding an applicant webinar, which you can register for here.
