OTTAWA – The Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) has become the first Canadian public sector incubator to make Amazon Web Services (AWS) programs available to Canadian public sector startups.
CIRA said Monday that the move means that its Community Investment Program recipients may now access Amazon’s cloud services to help them build and scale their projects. The program funds innovative community projects that seek to build a stronger, safer and more accessible Internet for Canadians. Since launching in 2014, the program has distributed $4.2M in funding to over 100 projects.
“We are thrilled that Amazon Web Services is supporting our vision to build a better online Canada”, said CIRA president and CEO Byron Holland, in the announcement. “Our Community Investment Program is at the heart of our mandate, and the AWS programs will allow our partners to continue to bring forward innovative projects that improve access, security, and quality of the internet in Canada."
In addition to managing the .CA top-level domain on behalf of all Canadians and representing the .CA registry internationally, CIRA also develops and implements policies that support Canada's internet community.
