CHUM International strikes programming deals in Russia, Hungary, Portugal, Africa, and Ukraine


TORONTO – CHUM International this week announced numerous sales of its original programming.

The MMVAs ’06 Red Carpet Arrivals Special (1 x 90’) and the 17th Annual MuchMusic Video Awards (1 x 120’) will premiere in the United States, Hungary and Australia, as a result of acquisitions by 4-The Story TV, XYZ Networks Pty Ltd. and IN Demand LLC for their 4-The Story TV, XYZ Networks and INHD/INHD2 channels, respectively.

The Independent Film Channel’s video on demand (IFC VOD Services LLC) has renewed 24 hours of sexuality and social commentary series, documentaries and specials. To be broadcast in the United States, included in the line-up are Private Parties: Lives Exposed (6 x 30’), Sex Confessions (6 x 30’), Sexual Utopias (1 x 60’), Globalization and the Language of Protest (1 x 60’) – which takes a meaningful glimpse at the anti-globalization movement and Scandal! Sex, Sin & Celebrity: The Unsavoury History of Sex and Stars (1 x 60’), which chronicles the evolution of celebrity sex scandals.

MUZ-TV purchased 27 hours from CHUM’s original line-up of music programming for its channel in Russia. Included in the mix are: the in-depth career-capsulizer Born To Be (13 x 30’) looking at the rise to fame of such artists as Usher, Eminem and Avril Lavigne; the head-to-head stardom tracker Heat Meter (13 x 30’), genre-defining Evolution (2 x 30’) that traces the musical links between artists from different decades; the definitive yet light-hearted Uncovered (15 x 30’) which explores the latest trends in music, and the biographical Profile (9 x 30’) that lets you get to know an artists’ background in 30 minutes.

Slated to debut in Russia and Ukraine, MUZ -TV is the first youth/music channel in the history of Russian TV broadcasting. 

In addition to picking up the MMVAs, Hungary’s 4-The Story TV also ordered a bundle of CHUM’s original music, celebrity and fashion programming. Included are the music and celebrity series: Heat Meter (5 x 30’), Everything (4 x 60’), Born To Be (2 x 30’), The Story Of (3 x 60’) profiling the stories of Celine Dion, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Shakira and more, and Egos & Icons (2 x 60’) which takes a retrospective look at artists like Madonna, Britney Spears, Blink 182 and Justin Timberlake. Fashion fare includes two Fashion Cares specials (2 x 60’) – the annual all-out fashion extravaganza and AIDS benefit featuring Pamela Anderson, Linda Evangelista, Erasure and more, and Tahiti Model Search (1 x 30’), about the search for the next great face of fashion.

Spain’s Factoria de Canales, S.L. renewed original CHUM music series LOUD (26 x 30’) and RapCity (26 x 30’). Both series are set to air in Spain, Portugal and Andorra, for its Teuve, Factoria de Canales, Meteo and participating companies/channels owned by Factoria de Canales/Media Park.

Argentina’s Cosmopolitan Television Latin America gets in style with the renewal purchase of FT-FashionTelevision (33 x 30’) for broadcast in Latin America (excluding Brazil). Having recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, FT-FashionTelevision is the original and best when it comes to showcasing the world’s leading fashion designers, models, photographers, artists and architects.

CANAL+ Horizons has ordered the genital origami comedy special Puppetry of the Penis – Live at the Forum (1 x 50’). Subtitled in French, this outrageous comedy showcasing these unusual puppeteers in performance at the Melbourne Forum will make its debut on CANAL + Service and CANAL HORIZONS Service channels in France, Monaco, Mauritius, Switzerland and Africa.
