CHCH-TV, CHEK announce lineup for live New Year’s Eve special

Hamilton’s CHCH-TV and Victoria’s CHEK on Wednesday announced their fourth annual live New Year’s Eve special, The Countdown to 2026, will be hosted by Canadian media personality George Stroumboulopoulos and will feature live performances by Canadian rock bands Sloan and Big Wreck.

Produced by Dept. 86 Productions and filmed in front of a live studio audience, the program will air live for broadcast and streaming audiences on Dec. 31 at 10 p.m. ET (7 p.m. PT), “promising to be 2.5 hours of electrifying live music, culminating in a live and uniquely Canadian countdown to midnight,” reads a CHCH-TV press release.

At-home viewers in Ontario will be able to watch The Countdown to 2026 live on CHCH-TV at 10 p.m. ET on conventional TV. The program will also stream nationally on chch.comParrot TV and YouTube.

CHEK will carry the broadcast live for B.C. viewers at 7 p.m. PT and again at 10 p.m. PT on conventional TV, and will stream the program for a national audience on CHEK+.

“To me, the key to a great New Year’s Eve is good people, and better music,” said Stroumboulopoulos, who is hosting The Countdown for the second straight year. “A show like this combines both, so I’m very excited to ring in the new year with the live energy of a crowd and some great Canadian tunes.”
