CHCH-TV announced Wednesday its live New Year’s Eve special will return to the Hamilton-area channel for a second year, following the success of last year’s debut production.
Airing Sunday, Dec. 31 at 11:10 p.m. ET, The Countdown to 2024 special will be produced by Department 86 Productions for CHCH-TV and will be hosted by Canadian TV personality Rick Campanelli.
The Hamilton-based production will feature live music and comedy from some of Canada’s biggest acts, filmed in front of a live studio audience at CHCH-TV’s Studio North, according to a press release. More details will be revealed on Friday, Dec. 15 at 8:40 a.m. ET when Campanelli appears as a guest on CHCH-TV’s flagship morning show Morning Live.
Well-known among Canadian TV viewers, Hamilton native Campanelli was a popular VJ host for MuchMusic for nearly a decade before moving to ET Canada where he was a reporter and co-host for 12 years, covering many high-profile events from the Golden Globes to the Oscars. He has also had radio stints at Evanov Communications’ Toronto station Z103.5 and Corus Entertainment’s 102.1 the Edge in Toronto.
Last year, CHCH-TV’s New Year’s broadcast was seen by 360,000 viewers and was rated the second-highest Canadian New Year’s Eve special of 2023, the channel’s press release claims.
