Changes atop CBC TV

TORONTO – CBC Television announced a new senior team structure on Friday which it says will allow the public broadcaster to focus on “innovative strategies for bringing new programs to Canadian audiences as well as markets outside the country,” reads the release,

"Over the last few years, CBC Television has experienced significant success with its new shows," said Richard Stursberg, executive vice-president of English services, in that release. "They have drawn bigger domestic audiences and sold well internationally.”

So, Fred Fuchs, former executive director, arts and entertainment for CBC Television, has been appointed general manager, production enterprises, with responsibility for strengthening the international relationships and financing of CBC’s arts and entertainment, documentary and factual entertainment shows. As part of his new role, Fuchs will also oversee CBC’s new feature film initiative.

At the same time, Sally Catto, former creative head for CBC drama, joins the senior network programming team as executive director, arts and entertainment for CBC Television and will lead the creative development and execution of all programming in comedy, drama, variety, performing arts and children’s programming.

"During his time with CBC, Fred has supervised – among many others – the Canadian hit shows Heartland, The Border, Little Mosque on the Prairie, Being Erica and The Tudors," Stursberg’s statement added. "Over the past four years, Fred has played a leading role in the Canadian television industry in developing the funding models which allow maximum production value per dollar invested.”

"Sally has also played a leading role in the creation of many of our biggest successes of the past several seasons," said Kirstine Stewart, general manager of CBC Television. "We’re been on a creative roll and Sally is well-positioned to continue along those lines with her team."

Both changes are effective immediately.
