TORONTO – ABC Studios’ boutique production subsidiary ABC Signature Studios has signed on as associate sponsor of the Canadian Film Centre’s program for TV writers.
The Bell Media Prime Time TV program, which has incubated series successes like Orphan Black and Travelers, is an intense professional and project development process for six to eight TV writers a year. Participants spend three months working on an original series intended for the marketplace under the mentorship of an experienced creator/showrunner delivering a rigorous story room experience while building strong collaborative team skills and creative partnerships. During the remaining two months, participants develop their own original series concept through a series of workshops and story sessions while also being exposed to key industry players through business and marketplace meetings.
The presence of ABC Signature Studios as both a sponsor and U.S. studio partner will directly benefit the program and its participants, ensuring vital support for the Canadian production industry, reads the news release.
“Our prime time TV program attracts and helps nurture some of the most exciting voices working in TV,” said CFC CEO Slawko Klymkiw, in the release. “We are thrilled that ABC Signature recognizes the high level of talent coming out of the program and is committed to providing them with additional opportunities as our associate sponsor.”
"As the competition in our landscape gets more fierce, talented writers become more scarce. Partnering with CFC became an obvious target for us given their proven track record identifying up and coming talent and incubating compelling ideas", added ABC Signature SVP Tracy Underwood. "We're thrilled to meet and help develop these exciting new voices.”
The 2016/17 program is set to begin in September 2016.
