CES 2011: Dell unveils first 4G tablet

LAS VEGAS – The onslaught of new tablet PCs continues at CES with the announcement from Dell Thursday of the Streak 7 with Android 2.2. It’s Dell’s first 4G tablet and will work with T-Mobile wireless network, which will bundle either monthly subscription or pre-paid data plans. Pricing however has not been released.

Dell calls the Streak 7 the “ultimate social-networking and entertainment hub for families with kids and students, putting your favorite friends, music and movies front and center.”

The tablet features a NVIDIA Tegra dual-core processor superchip, 7-inch multi-touch screen with Corning Gorilla Glass and full Adobe Flash Player 10.1 support. The Android-based tablet is ideal for experiencing thousands of Android Market widgets, games and applications says Dell.

Like many tablets unveiled at CES it has built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth capability and front- and rear-facing cameras to allow users to chat face-to-face with friends over 3G, 4G3 or Wi-Fi connections at home and on the go.

“With its dual-core processor, 7-inch multi-touch screen and dual cameras, the new Dell Streak 7 tablet takes full advantage of the unrivaled power of T-Mobile’s 4G network,” said John Thode, Vice President of Dell’s Mobility Product Group.

Dell has also unveiled a new smartphone. The Venue with Android 2.2 is a one-touch, unlocked GSM smartphone providing instant access to content. It sports a 4.1” AMOLED display with curved Gorilla Glass panel, and 8MP camera.
