MONROE, LA – U.S. telecommunications company CenturyLink has chosen Toronto as one of eight new markets to expand its global data centres.
The opening of three new data centers in North America, (the other locations are Phoenix and Minneapolis), are in addition to expansions to five existing CenturyLink data centers, which together will offer more than 20 megawatts of additional power and in excess of 180,000 square feet of additional space and to the company’s total data centre footprint.
As Cartt.ca reported, the data centre is scheduled to open later this year in Markham, just north of Toronto, and will be operated by Savvis, a CenturyLink company.
CenturyLink said the expansion plan responds to global demand for secure cloud, colocation and managed services, particularly in regions with a strong CenturyLink network presence. These plans follow recent news that the company will also invest in expanding its CenturyLink Cloud network of public cloud data centers.
"CenturyLink is committed to investing in world-class infrastructure to meet growing demand for access to comprehensive and secure technology solutions that power business transformation," said CenturyLink Technology Solutions president Jeff Von Deylen, in the news release. "By adding capacity in these key locations, we position ourselves firmly for delivering the advanced network, hosting and IT services that organizations depend on to compete in the global economy."
