CDCE event to explore AI’s impact on Canada’s creative industries Feb. 11

The Coalition for the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (CDCE) announced last week it will hold a one-day event on artificial intelligence and the creative industries, taking place on Feb. 11 at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa.

Titled “Valuing Human Creativity in the Age of AI”, the gathering will bring together Canadian, Indigenous and international perspectives to explore the impact of artificial intelligence on the creative industries and to foster collective reflection on the transformations currently underway, a CDCE press release said.

“Designed as a space for dialogue and the sharing of expertise, the day aims to deepen understanding of the challenges associated with the development of AI in the cultural sector and to identify concrete avenues for action to value human creativity in the digital age,” reads a description of the event.

The day’s scheduled discussions will examine the policy, legal and cultural implications of AI, with speakers representing creators, rights holders and cultural organizations. The full program is available here.

The CDCE’s event will take place ahead of the National Summit on Artificial Intelligence and Culture, to be held in Banff on March 16 and 17, 2026.

The CDCE is composed of more than 50 anglophone and francophone organizations that collectively represent the interests of more than 350,000 creators and professionals and 3,000 companies in the book, film, television, new media, music, performing arts and visual arts sectors.
