
SAINT JOHN – After receiving more than 350,00 votes from across the country, the Canadian Cable Systems Alliance (CCSA) released the winners of the 2014 I *Heart* Local Cable initiative late Wednesday.
The contest, designed to celebrate local cable companies, their content and the personalities that make them shine, received more than 100 nominations and the shortlist of 24 nominees, released February 14 on I *Heart* Local Cable Day, represented 11 CCSA members from coast to coast. Voting closed June 30 and the winners were selected by most number of votes received.
The winners are:
Best local programming – news/issue coverage: Vu d’ici, Coopérative de câblodistribution de l’arrière pays (Québec City, QC)
Best local programming – sports coverage: Scotties Tournament Of Hearts Curling, Westman Communications Group (Brandon, MB)
Best local programming – entertainment: Discover Valemount Series, Valemount Entertainment Society (Valemount, BC)
Best local cable personality: Chloé Patry-Robitaille, Coopérative de câblodistribution de l’arrière pays (Québec City, QC)
Best customer service story: Yourlink Inc. (Revelstoke, BC)
Best public service/Community building effort: Coop de Cablo de L’arriere-Pays (Québec City, QC)
The winner in each category will have $1,000 donated to the community charity of their choice.
“We were excited to receive more than 100 nominations from our members and their subscribers across the country, and thrilled with the amount of votes they each received,” said CCSA president and CEO Alyson Townsend, in the announcement. “But for us, the best thing is the exposure each and every one of our nominees received over these past few months. The I Heart Local Cable Awards has really become a platform for celebrating their terrific achievements.”
