NEW YORK — ViacomCBS announced today its upcoming global streaming service will be called Paramount+ and, in conjunction with the launch, the company’s existing CBS All Access service will also be rebranded as Paramount+ in early 2021.
In Canada, the rebranded Paramount+ premium SVOD streaming service will carry the same content as the current CBS All Access offering, a ViacomCBS spokesperson confirmed for Cartt.ca via email. Many of ViacomCBS’s shows are currently licensed for distribution by Canadian broadcasters, which makes the CBS All Access offering a less attractive buy for Canadian subscribers who can get the service’s content elsewhere. For example, Bell Media has the Canadian rights to the three newest Star Trek series.
Internationally, starting in the first quarter of 2021, the Paramount+ service will relaunch in the Nordics and Latin America regions and rebrand and relaunch in Australia as “a new supersized premium version of Paramount+, which will exclusively feature Showtime and CBS All Access Original Series premieres, Paramount+ originals and series from CBS Television Studios, Paramount Television Studios, BET, Nickelodeon, MTV brands and more,” reads the international version of the press release.
“With the global launch of Paramount+ we are poised to become as powerful a player in streaming as we are in TV,” said David Lynn, president and CEO of ViacomCBS Networks International (VCNI), in the press release. “VCNI is focused on building a meaningful, global brand presence in our key markets, generating material advertising, subscription and licensing revenue from streaming. By leveraging the iconic Paramount brand, leading edge infrastructure from ViacomCBS along with an incredible, super-sized pipeline of must-see content, Paramount+ will deliver an exceptional consumer entertainment experience and significantly disrupt the streaming industry.”
