CBC’s new buddy cop drama in pre-production

TORONTO — CBC is partnering with NBCUniversal International Studios on a new original drama series called Lady Dicks that is currently in pre-production and will begin shooting in Ontario this spring.

The buddy cop drama series (10×60) is produced by Cameron Pictures in association with CBC and NBCUniversal, and stars Meredith MacNeill, left (Baroness von Sketch Show), and Adrienne C. Moore, right (Orange Is The New Black). Critically acclaimed director, Holly Dale (Batwoman, Mary Kills People) will direct the premiere episode.

Co-created by Tassie Cameron (Mary Kills People, Ten Days in the Valley, Rookie Blue, The Robber Bride) and Sherry White (Little Dog, Frontier, Ten Days in the Valley, Rookie Blue), Lady Dicks is described as “a fun and honest portrayal of two radically different female detectives in their early 40s.”

The series follows guns and gangs detective Samantha (MacNeill) and narcotics detective Kelly (Moore), who by day are true action heroes, says the release. But by night, they both grapple with loneliness, dysfunctional families, screwed-up love lives and a sense their professional ambitions may not be in line with their personal needs.

Lady Dicks is an exciting, smart and witty drama brought to life by a team of brilliant women,” said Sally Catto, general manager of programming for CBC, in the release. “This series will resonate with audiences across Canada and around the world, and I’m thrilled that CBC will be its home. We are so fortunate to have Meredith MacNeill and Adrienne C. Moore onboard to star and look forward to working with Cameron Pictures to bring this series to life.”
