OTTAWA – CBC has added two sections to its Web site to feed Canada’s growing demand for online information.
CBC.ca has a section on Technology and Science, and one called Consumer Life.
The first covers the latest advances in technology and science, with a focus on how the fields are transforming the way Canadians live. CBC Radio’s science show Quirks and Quarks will have a blog, and the section will feature regular contributions from award-winning science writer Stephen Strauss, formerly of The Globe and Mail. The section also gives readers the opportunity to share their own tips and opinions.
Technology and Science will have news on the latest innovations, cutting-edge gadgets and games, and analysis of the effect of technology on our lives.
Consumer Life aims to help readers make smart, informed consumer choices. The section will offer in-depth coverage of consumer trends and products, tackling everything from travel to retail.
The section will feature daily updates on the latest consumer product recalls and advisories, along with tips and analysis. Consumer Life will also invite readers to discuss consumer trends, such as how they’re coping with rising fuel costs.
“We regularly ask Canadians what they want from CBC.ca through our annual surveys,” says Sue Gardner, senior director of CBC.CA. “This is what they’ve told us they want. The CBC is already a trusted news source for Canadians, and this is an opportunity for us to make CBC.ca’s overall news package even more relevant by offering smart, credible news and analysis on two very important topics.”
CBC.ca says it is Canada’s most visited online news source.
