TORONTO — The Terry Fox Foundation announced today a one-hour special broadcast, Terry Fox: The Power of One, will air nationwide on August 9 on CBC TV and CBC Gem and will stream globally on CBC’s website in support of cancer research.
Terry Fox: The Power of One “will share diverse stories of hope, courage, and resilience as told by iconic Canadians inspired by the vision and enduring legacy of Terry’s Marathon of Hope,” reads a press release.
Produced by Insight Productions, the special will feature musical performances by Canadian artists, including Alessia Cara, Tom Cochrane and William Prince, as well as special appearances by several celebrity personalities, such as Michael “Pinball” Clemons, Sidney Crosby, Mike and Patrick Downie, Perdita Felicien, Rick Hansen, Marie-Mai, Rick Mercer, Hayley Wickenheiser and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The Fox family will also share memories and personal stories.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to share Terry’s story in an exciting way that will encourage Canadians across the country to once again come together and cheer for Terry, honour his legacy, and support his dream to cure cancer,” says Michael Mazza, executive director of The Terry Fox Foundation, in the press release.
“With one in two Canadians expected to battle cancer in their lifetime, the need for research has never been more urgent.”
Proceeds from the special program will fund innovative cancer research, including a new project called the Marathon of Hope Cancer Centres Network, which is “a powerful collaboration of Canada’s best cancer researchers to accelerate precision medicine by sharing knowledge and resources, and building a new, accessible cancer data platform to deliver the best possible outcome for each cancer patient, no matter where they live,” reads the press release.

Terry Fox: The Power of One will broadcast on Monday, August 9 at 8 p.m. (8:30 NT) on CBC TV and CBC Gem, and will stream globally at CBC.ca/TerryFox.
