CBC Sports teams with Professional Triathletes Organisation to cover PTO Tour events in 2022

LONDON, UK — The Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) and CBC Sports announced today they are partnering to provide extensive broadcast and streaming coverage of all PTO Tour events in 2022, including the inaugural PTO Canadian Open taking place in Edmonton this weekend.

The events will be available to stream live and for free via CBC Gem, cbcsports.ca and the CBC Sports app for iOS and Android devices. Coverage will also be featured as part of CBC Sports weekend programming on CBC TV, according to a press release.

In addition to covering the live events, CBC Sports coverage will include preview shows and highlights packages before and after each PTO Tour event.

“The new PTO Tour is all about putting the amazing exploits and compelling stories of the world’s best triathletes onto the screens of more sports fans around the world,” said Tim Godfrey, the PTO’s chief marketing officer, in the release.

“We can’t wait to get things under way in Edmonton…which is why this deal with CBC Sports to show our first-ever PTO Canadian Open live across channels is so important.”

The PTO is a not-for-profit entity “co-owned by the professional athletes, seeking to grow the sport and take it to the next level,” the release explains.

The PTO Tour race schedule for 2022 includes: the PTO Canadian Open in Edmonton (July 23-24); the second edition of the $1.5-million Collins Cup in Bratislava, Slovakia (Aug. 20), which sees Team Europe take on Team USA and Team International; and the first PTO US Open in Dallas (Sept. 17-18).

Each Open event carries a minimum prize money of $1 million and will be raced over 100 kilometres (2-km swim, 80-km bike and 18-km run), the release says.

“In 2023 and 2024, the PTO Tour plans to expand with the PTO European Open and the PTO Asian Open, alongside their US and Canadian equivalents and the Collins Cup,” the release adds.
