
TORONTO – CBC has upped the ante on its Olympics coverage, announcing today that its “every hour” coverage of the 2014 Winter Olympics will now also be accessible virtually “everywhere,” thanks to new licensing agreements with Bell, Rogers, Telus, Videotron, and YouTube.
The public broadcaster said that live and on-demand English- and French-language Olympic Winter Games content from CBC/Radio-Canada will be “top of menu” for the telcos, and will also be prominently featured on popular digital portals including MSN.ca and YouTube.
CBC says the agreement with YouTube represents one component of an expanded alliance that will see a renewal of CBC/Radio-Canada’s presence on the widely popular video platform.
CBC has also secured an on-demand content agreement with the Canadian Cable Systems Alliance (CCSA). In this first-ever comprehensive deal with multiple CCSA members, the best of CBC/Radio-Canada English-language Winter Olympic Games coverage will be available on-demand to participating independent cable operators across Canada.
The full scope of CBC/Radio-Canada’s coverage of Sochi 2014 also will be available on CBC-TV and Radio-Canada main networks, as well as TSN, TSN2, Sportsnet, Sportsnet One, TVA Sports and RDS.
For Bell customers, the licensing agreement provides access to CBC coverage from Sochi in English and French live and on-demand at home and on the go on their smartphones and tablets through the Bell TV app. Bell TV subscribers can also access on-demand coverage, highlights and replays with Bell TV Online and Bell Fibe TV On Demand HD.
Rogers wireless and digital TV customers will be able to live stream CBC coverage of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games in English and French on their computer, tablet, and smartphone with Rogers Anyplace TV. Viewers can catch the live action by visiting RogersAnyplaceTV.com/sports. In addition, Rogers On Demand on Ch. 100 will be home to replays and highlights, including the opening and closing ceremonies. Rogers customers can re-live Team Canada’s greatest moments with hundreds of hours of on demand coverage on TV, computer, tablet, smartphone, gaming consoles and connected TVs.
Telus Optik TV subscribers will be able to view comprehensive live and video-on-demand CBC/Radio Canada Olympic coverage on multiple screens including TV, mobile, and online. Optik TV subscribers will also have access to additional live feed coverage in HD via CBC/Radio-Canada’s raw feeds, offering live coverage of multiple sports taking place simultaneously at different venues.
Videotron will bring live and on demand CBC/Radio-Canada coverage of Sochi 2014 to their customers through a multiplatform experience across all illico screens: TV, web, mobile and tablet. Videotron customers will have access to CBC/Radio-Canada's coverage when and where they want with Videotron's live and on demand offer including more than 300 broadcast hours of on-demand content in French and English.
