TORONTO — CBC/Radio-Canada today announced the launch of its 2022-2025 Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Plan, which is titled Progress in Progress.
The new three-year plan builds on the national public broadcaster’s previous 2018-2021 Diversity and Inclusion Plan as well as its June 2021 update on targets set in 2020.
“We’re applying an EDI lens to everything we do, so that we can better reflect the diversity of Canada and the experiences of all Canadians in our content and services, as well as in our workforce,” said Catherine Tait, president and CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada, in a press release.
“We want people of all backgrounds, identities and abilities to be valued, seen and heard — that’s what Progress in Progress will help us do,” she said.
CBC/Radio-Canada outlines several commitments in its 2022-2025 plan, including:
- Half of all new hires for executive and senior management positions at CBC/Radio-Canada will be Indigenous Peoples, racialized people, or people with disabilities.
- Retention and promotion rates for Indigenous Peoples, racialized peoples, or people with disabilities will be doubled by 2025.
- By 2025, at least one of the key creative roles in all English- and French-language programs will be held by someone who is Indigenous, racialized, a member of LGBTQ2+ communities, or has a disability.
According to a summary of CBC/Radio-Canada’s new plan, 17% of management roles at the public broadcaster in 2021 were held by racialized employees, up from 14% in 2018. Furthermore, 63% of management are women.
In addition, LGBTQ2+ employees make up 8% of CBC/Radio-Canada’s overall workforce currently, according to the summary.
