OTTAWA – CBC/Radio-Canada is taking steps to improve the inclusivity of its workplace culture through the addition of new internal programs as well as new metrics to monitor its diversity and inclusion track record.
The public broadcaster said that its online career section Working With Us now has details on employee initiatives and memberships with business networks like IndigenousLink, Catalyst, and SenseAbility in an effort to foster greater inclusiveness. It also detailed new initiatives such as Developing Emerging Leaders Program, unconscious bias training for all employees, employee resource groups to bring together those with common backgrounds and experiences, and Indigenous internships that offer one-year paid internships of Indigenous reporters joining its regional and network newsrooms.
"We've broadened our thinking from mainly focusing on numbers and compliance to having an outlook that encompasses a wider set of criteria," said Monique Marcotte, CBC/Radio-Canada's people and culture VP, in the news release. "We're engaging with more groups – CBC/Radio-Canada is the first Canadian media company to add gender and sexual diversity to its voluntary workforce tracking metrics. We're creating initiatives to improve the inclusivity of our workplace culture. And we're making our programming content more diverse to be relevant to more Canadians.”
