
Announces 22 nationwide engagement sessions from April 26-Sept. 27
TORONTO and MONTREAL — CBC/Radio-Canada announced today it plans to hold a series of engagement sessions across the country to hear from Indigenous communities about what they want to see from Canada’s national public broadcaster.
In total, 22 engagement sessions are scheduled to take place between April 26 and Sept. 27, 2022. Fourteen of the sessions will be held in English, organized by the Indigenous Leadership Development Institute in partnership with CBC. Eight sessions will be held in French, organized by Acosys Consulting Services in partnership with Radio-Canada.
“The meetings will create a space for meaningful dialogue with First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples in and out of the community about how CBC/Radio-Canada represents and reflects Indigenous needs, interests and cultures,” reads CBC’s press release.
“An important part of our mission as the public broadcaster is to provide services that meet the needs of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples,” Catherine Tait, president and CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada, said in the release.
“These engagement sessions will be an opportunity for us to listen and learn about those needs so we can address them in our content, workforce, workplace culture and relations with Indigenous communities,” Tait said.
The English-language CBC engagement sessions are scheduled as follows:
- April 26 in Winnipeg
- May 10 in Yellowknife
- May 31 in Saskatoon
- June 14 in Vancouver
- June 29 in Whitehorse
- July 12 in Iqaluit
- July 18 in Membertou First Nation, Nova Scotia
- July 19 in Halifax
- July 26 in Edmonton
- August 16 in Kahnawake, Quebec
- August 30 in Ottawa
- September 6 in Toronto
- September 14 in St. John’s
- September 27 in Thunder Bay
The French-language Radio-Canada sessions are scheduled as follows:
- April 28 as a virtual session for Indigenous media
- May 9 in Montreal/Tiohti:áke
- May 23 (AM) in Wendake, Quebec
- May 23 (PM) in Wendake, Quebec for Indigenous organizations
- June 15 in Val d’Or, Quebec
- August 23 in Sept-Îles, Quebec
- September 5 as a virtual session for Métis and First Nations participants
- September 12 as a virtual session for Cree and Inuit participants
