CBC Kids hires new development and production executive

TORONTO — CBC announced today Swin Chang (above) has joined CBC Kids’ content team as executive in charge of development and production.

In this role, Chang will work with the independent production community “to seek out, create and curate preschool and tween content for CBC TV and CBC Gem,” explains a press release.

She will focus on development and acquisitions, and will oversee production of selected projects with independent producers and of in-house preschool series, the release says.

Chang will report to Marie McCann, senior director of children’s content at CBC Kids, whose content team also includes executives in charge of development and production Drew Mullin and Lisa Cinelli, and Mia Rodak, executive producer for CBC Kids Digital. Shamhan Bhuiyan is interim manager of development, production and acquisitions.

“Swin brings to CBC Kids more than two decades of invaluable experience in children’s and family entertainment, including as both a broadcaster and independent producer,” said McCann, in the press release. “As children’s content becomes even more reliant on global partnerships and cross-platform opportunities, Swin’s keen insights and international experience will help to further elevate CBC Kids’ slate for audiences at home and around the world.”

Chang was most recently director of development for Alibi Pivotal Kids, where she “led the company’s efforts in sourcing new IP and talent, and worked closely with creators, writers and key stakeholders to develop a slate of multi-genre content in scripted live-action and animation for the global market,” according to the press release.

Previously, she was the director of development for Entertainment One Family, where she developed the animated comedy series Winston Steinburger and Sir Dudley Ding Dong. Her past roles include primetime and kids content development at Amaze Film + Television, and BBC.

Chang began her career at Family Channel, Disney XD and Disney Jr “where she supervised the creative development and production of all original Canadian content from development through to production, including hit shows Life With Derek, Radio Free Roscoe, The Latest Buzz, Wingin’ It, Stella and Sam, and Justin Time.”
