CBC gains three new board members


OTTAWA – Linda Black, Mary McNeil, and Brian Mitchell have been added to the board of directors of CBC/Radio-Canada announced Josee Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women and Official Languages.

"The varied backgrounds and experiences of these three individuals will be great assets," said Minister Verner in a release. None of the new board members are broadcasters.

Black has worked in various senior executive government roles and served as the founding general counsel at the University of Calgary. She is currently a member of the Alberta Secretariat for Action on Homelessness, a member of the Law Enforcement Review Board of Alberta, and governor for the Board of Governors of Mount Royal College.

McNeil is the president and CEO of the BC Cancer Foundation, an independent charitable organization that raises funds to support research and enhancements to care at the BC Cancer Agency. She is a member of the Fundraising Program Advisory Committee at the British Columbia Institute of Technology, a member of the Board of the Vancouver Children’s Choir, and a member and past chair of the YWCA’s Inner Circle Committee.

Mitchell, a lawyer by profession, is founder and managing partner of the law firm Mitchell Gattuso. He plays an active role in various associations and on the boards of a number of community, cultural, and social organizations, including the Westmount Municipal Association, the Georgeville Community Association, St. Michael’s Mission, and the Infinit Theatre.
