TORONTO – For the first time this Saturday, Canadian hockey fans will be able to see both games of CBC’S Hockey Night In Canada traditional Saturday night doubleheader in high definition.
The Corp brought Encore its second HD mobile production truck on line just recently and CBC’S Hockey Night In Canada will double its HD broadcast schedule for the remainder of the 2006/07 regular season as well as for the 2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Encore joins CBC’S Hockey Night In Canada first HD mobile production truck, Premiere, and will be based in Toronto to handle the eastern broadcasts. Premiere will be based in Calgary to produce the western broadcasts.
“We are proud to be offering viewers an exciting, expanded HD schedule – especially heading into the Stanley Cup Playoffs," said Joel Darling, executive producer, HNIC. "With the addition of Encore, we now have two full-time HD trucks that will allow us to broadcast both Game One and Game Two of our Saturday doubleheaders in HD, plus extensive HD coverage of NHL playoff games.”
Viewers can catch back-to-back games in HD on CBC’S Hockey Night In Canada beginning this Saturday, March 31 at 7 p.m. with game one of the Saturday night doubleheader featuring Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins taking on Mats Sundin and the Maple Leafs in Toronto. In the nightcap of the doubleheader, Jarome Iginla leads the Calgary Flames into Vancouver to face Roberto Luongo and the Canucks at 10 p.m. ET.
“Encore is a state-of-the-art truck, and one of the most technically flexible mobiles in North America,” said Joe Sidoli, director, production resources and operations, CBC Sports. “Hockey Night in Canada is one of the most challenging broadcasts to produce from a technical standpoint, due to the multiple cameras and peripheral equipment required. Encore is built to handle this complex production and will offer viewers the best HD hockey telecasts possible.”
